An Ohio woman who was in the United States illegally has confessed to killing her 5-year-old daughter and then ordering her husband to hide the body (video below).
Ming Ming Chen, 30, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter, the Daily Mail reported.
Chen's 5-year-old daughter, Ashley Zhao, was reported missing in January 2017. The following day, police found Ashley's body inside the family's restaurant, Ang's Asian Cuisine. Her body was found near the kitchen's freezer, and both parents were arrested.
Police said Ashley suffered a fatal brain injury after Chen repeatedly hit her. They said Chen's husband, Liang Zhao, 34, tried reviving the 5-year-old girl before hiding her body.
A new video shows Chen confessing to investigators that she did, in fact, beat her daughter to death and then told her husband to hide her body in the back of the restaurant.
"What happened; how did she die?" an investigator asks Chen.
"I just killed her and the she died," Chen answered.
The investigator then asks Chen if she hit the child.
"Yes," Chen responds. "Use your hand to do that."
"I told my husband to take care of it," Chen continued.
Chen told authorities she killed her daughter after becoming overwhelmed with work. She also told investigators that Ashley was disobedient and would push her sister whenever she didn't get her way, Canton Rep reported. Ashley had been living with her grandparents in New York until October 2015.
"I need to take care of everything from the restaurant. I only have two hands. I'm not four hands girl, I'm two hands," Chen said. "I don't want to do that to Ashley, but you can't control yourself sometimes."
Prosecutors lowered Chen's murder charge to involuntary manslaughter as a part of her plea deal. The mother also pleaded guilty to corpse abuse, evidence-tampering, obstructing justice and child endangerment.
According to County Prosecutor John Ferrero, evidence in the case shows Chen did not intend to kill her daughter. He said the crime was "committed in a fit of anger by a mother who had never bonded with her child."
"I don't think she's a monster," added defense attorney Richard Drucker. "I think she was a woman that made very poor choices in her life at the time."
Chen is expected to be deported back to China after serving her time.
Zhao pleaded guilty to corpse abuse, tampering with evidence, obstructing justice and endangering children. He had also agreed to testify against his wife in order to have murder charges against him dropped. He will reportedly serve 12 years behind bars.
