A Kentucky woman has taken an abandoned dog into her home after finding it trapped inside of a garbage bag on the side of the road (video below).
Malissa Sergent Lewis was on her way to work on Aug. 25 when she noticed a moving trash bag on the side of the road, the Daily Mail reported.
“I saw this trash bag in the road, and I thought to myself, ‘Did I just see that bag move?’” Lewis told The Dodo. “The closer I got, I realized it was moving.”
Lewis pulled over to further investigate.
“I could hardly wrap my mind around that,” Lewis said. “Something was alive in that bag, and I just knew I had to get whatever it was out.”
Lewis recorded a video of the moving trash bag. When she opened the bag, she found a small puppy inside.
“As soon as I opened it up, and he saw light, he just started wagging his tail,” Lewis recalled. “He knew he was OK. I couldn't believe it,”
Lewis said the dog was wearing a collar without any tags. She had her son pick the dog up and take him home.
The family took the dog to the vet. Lewis posted a video on Facebook of the dog, asking for the previous owner to step forward.
“If this is your puppy, let me know,” Lewis wrote. “If you are the scoundrel who put it in a garbage bag and tossed it on the side of the road.....you're a sicko.”
Her post was shared more than 20,000 times in less than a week. Lewis said she plans on keeping the dog, who they named Hefty, if no one claims him.
