Model Meaghan Kausman is furious after discovering that a swimsuit company she modeled for drastically photoshopped her body in published photos.
Kausman recently did an underwater photoshoot with photographer Pip Summerville. She modeled Fella Swim products during the shoot. Kausman and Summerville were pleased with the photos and sent them off to Fella Swim for publishing.
But, in a story we’re all familiar with by now, Fella Swim drastically altered the photos. Kausman was livid to find the company photoshopped pounds off of her body.
“My jaw literally dropped,” Kausman told MailOnline. “…They took something and altered it because they didn't see it as beautiful… They had drastically altered my body, thinning out my stomach and thighs in an attempt to box me into the cultural ideal of beauty.”
Here are two images from the shoot. The bottom one is an original, and the top one is a photoshopped version:
Kausman says she refuses to let her body be used to “perpetuate the idea belief that ‘thinner is better.’”
“My body is a size 8, not a size 4,” she says. “That's my body! I refuse to stand by and allow ANY company or person to perpetuate the belief that 'thinner is better.' All women are beautiful, and we come in different shapes and sizes! It is NOT OKAY to alter a woman's body to make it look thinner. EVER!”
Photographer Pip Summerville is considering taking legal action against the company for breach of copyright.
“They didn't ask for my permission [and] it completely changed the image, it just destroyed Meaghan's appearance,” Summerville said. “They basically cut her in half and biologically speaking that's not what a human body would look like in that position.”
Kausman says she’s received an outpouring of support since going public with her grievances against Fella Swim.
“People have been so appreciative,” she said. “I got a couple of emails from people suffering eating disorders saying thank you. I'm so thankful that people are supportive.”
