Reports say that a 23-year-old man was lynched by an angry mob in Kenya last month after suspicion grew that he raped and killed a young girl.
An angry mob allegedly killed the man after police discovered the body of a 14-year-old schoolgirl. The teen was reportedly sent to collect firewood and wound up being kidnapped, raped, and murdered. Police say the girl’s throat was slashed and her body was naked when they found her.
“We found the minor's body in the forest on Sunday, a day after she went missing,” said Chepyuk Assistant Police Chief Rodgers Sangula. “Her throat had been slit open and she had been raped.”
Following the angry mob’s lynching of the suspect, Cheptais Sub-county OCPD Ezekiel Kiche cautioned the public that taking these matters into their own hands could actually hurt efforts to stop similar situations from happening in the future.
“When you subject someone you suspect of committing a crime to mob justice, they die with information that could have otherwise been useful to security agents,” said Kiche. “If we arrest these culprits they can tell us who their accomplices are.”
