Third Suspect Connected To Shooting Death Of Woman Turns Himself In

A Mississippi woman who was shot in the stomach during an alleged armed robbery last week has died in a Jackson hospital, her family said Monday night.

Police say they have two of the shooting suspects in custody and the third turned himself in today.

The Clarion-Ledger reports 69-year-old Carolyn Temple died in the intensive care unit of a local hospital after aspirating a pill she had been given.

Temple's daughter, Tress Gardner, notified friends and family of the woman’s death on her Facebook page Monday night.

“My mom put up a hell of a fight and I am so very proud of her. She was so tired, and I know she is no longer hurting and is at peace,” Gardner wrote. “Please keep my family in your prayers as we face the ordeal of a homicide investigation.”

Police believe Gardner was shot outside the home of her boyfriend, Conner McAllister, on Jan. 7 as she was bringing garbage cans back from the curb.

McAllister told police he ran outside after hearing gunshots and saw two men running away from the curb in front of his house and saying something about leaving before police arrived. They fled in a maroon Chevy Impala, said a neighbor who also claimed to see a third man sitting behind the wheel of the car.

A jogger found Temple’s purse alongside a frontage road Saturday. Her car keys and belongings were still inside but her wallet was missing.

Investigators believe Temple was hit in the head and shot after refusing to give the purse to whoever confronted her in front of McAllister’s house.

Police now say two men who were arrested in connection with an alleged carjacking were also responsible for Temple’s death.

WLBT News reports 17-year-old Antreal Jones and 17-year-old Jerome Moore were arrested Tuesday on a charge of armed carjacking after an intense manhunt.

Police say that investigation led to evidence that they were involved with Temple’s robbery as well.

They were charged with capital murder after Temple died Monday night.

Authorities have also released the name of a third suspect, 16-year-old Antwain Dukes, who turned himself in to police today.
