After several days of searching, the body of a missing 5-year-old Virginia boy was discovered in his family's septic tank on Thursday afternoon.
According to USA Today, Noah Thomas went missing on Sunday. This prompted his family and a team involving hundreds of volunteers and police officers to search for him throughout the town and surrounding area.
However, after Sheriff Jim Davis announced that there would be a $5,000 reward for his return, his body was discovered in the septic tank near the family's home.
Sheriff Davis announced the end of the search on Thursday during a news conference.
His body was transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke to be autopsied. The cause of the child's death is still unknown.
Law enforcement officials received more than a hundred tips about the disappearance from around the nation.
Davis reported that many of the tips included sightings of suspicious vehicles in the boy's neighborhood. He also noted that much of the investigation is still ongoing and that no one has been arrested yet.
The FBI is collecting forensic evidence in order to assist the case.
Noah was last seen with his mother on Sunday morning at the family's house.
