During the Nov. 10 Fox Business Republican Debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, police were prepared to face protesters (video below).
As expected, protesters showed up to the Milwaukee Theatre that night. What happened next, was less predictable.
A protester set an American flag on fire and police jumped into action to put out the flames. An officer picked up the flag after the fire was out and did what he felt was the right thing to do in that moment.
Officers held a small ceremony to properly fold and salute the flag, despite the rough condition it was in after being burned and tattered.
The flag was then inventoried for potential charges against the protester who burned it.
Video of the officers’ flag ceremony was posted to the Milwaukee Police Department’s Facebook page and has been viewed more than 800,000 times in three days.
The Facebook post identifies the officers who carried out the ceremony as Officers Joel Rossman, Jedidiah Thompson and Jutiki X.
There has not yet been word on whether the protester will face charges for burning the flag.
