Man Claims He Filmed Bigfoot In Utah (Video)

Though scientists generally agree Bigfoot isn’t lurking around the woods of North America, a man trekking through Payson Canyon, Utah, submitted a video to a group called The Paranormal Review claiming it shows footage of the elusive ape (video below).

According to the video’s description, a man submitted the footage, which he claims to have captured in Spring of 2015. The man, who has not been identified, “was too nervous or embarrassed to show anyone who might think he was crazy.”

Since the video was posted on Feb. 15, it has garnered more than 110,00 views. However, the footage has been regarded with skepticism. One commenter using the name Nigel Fortune wrote: “Faked (in my opinion. At the 33-second mark) you can see the camera [move] to the right when moving to the left would have given a much clearer view of the ‘creature.’”

Sightings of Bigfoot are not uncommon in Utah. According to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization website, there have been nearly 70 reported sightings of Bigfoot in Utah since 1997. However, there may be a more plausible, if less spectacular, explanation.

In January 2015, shortly before the video was purportedly taken, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources found that the bear population in the state was growing. Officials estimated that there were 4,100 black bears in the wild, dozens of which run into humans. According to Defenders of Wildlife, black bears can be up to 7 feet in length and weigh up to 600 pounds.

Black bears are also “primarily found in forested areas with thick ground vegetation and an abundance of fruits, nuts, and vegetation” - which matches the video of the purported Bigfoot sighting.
