A Michigan man beat his mother several times Friday night in a drunken rage when he saw a Christmas ornament with his brother’s name but none with his, police say.
Police responded to a 911 call early Saturday from a home in Casco Township after dispatchers received a call with no one on the line, but shouting in the background and a woman yelling, “You are hurting me,” MLive.com reported.
The investigation revealed that Lewis Atwood, 33, punched his mother Sandra Atwood, 58, in the face “four or five times” while he helped decorate a Christmas tree with his girlfriend and his brother.
He was intoxicated and became angry when he noticed his younger sibling’s name appeared on an ornament but his name didn’t.
According to MailOnline, he then pushed approached his mother, and began pummeling the woman.
She suffered a bloody nose, swollen eye and a swollen lip. Her son had minor injuries to his knuckles and hands, consistent with punching someone.
“The suspect became upset and pushed his way past the others and attacked his mother, striking her several times in the face,” sheriff’s Capt. Frank Baker said.
The suspect was arrested on domestic violence charges and taken to jail. He is being held on $5,000 bond.
