St. Joseph, Michigan, high school teacher Lauren Hill was charged with four counts of criminal sexual conduct after allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a female student.

The St. Joseph Department of Public Safety was contacted by the St. Joseph Public Schools on April 29 after an allegation was made against 26-year-old Hill. According to police, an investigation into the report revealed evidence establishing probable cause that Hill had started an inappropriate relationship with a student.

"On Wednesday, April 29, 2015, the parents of a student at our high school brought a concern to our attention regarding an inappropriate relationship with one of our teachers,” Superintendent Ann Cardon wrote in a statement. “We immediately interviewed the teacher, placed her on paid administrative leave and called the police.”

Hill was arrested and jailed at the Berrien County Jail on two counts of second degree-criminal sexual conduct and two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. She later posted $10,000 bond.

According to current and former students, Hill was the coach of the girls soccer team, which is where the relationship began. Students reported that she was one of the most loved teachers and that no one had anything bad to say about her.

On May 1, Hill resigned from her position.
