A Miami police officer accidentally fired his rifle in a courthouse Wednesday while demonstrating a training exercise to a judge.
A Miami-Dade Police officer was on the 30th floor of the Lawson E. Thomas Courthouse when he fired a single shot from his department-issued AR-15.
No one was injured. The bullet hit the floor and left a hole in the hallway carpet.
Several people in the building told CBS Miami they did not even hear the shot.
A sign in the courthouse lobby tells officers to secure firarms in gun lockers. The cop, however, was there on “official training business.”
Police say the officer did not do anything unlawful but also did not explain why the gun was loaded during training and why the safety was not on.
The officer's name was not released.
