A Memphis police officer has been suspended from the force and faces criminal charges after he tried to rob a woman at a Memphis airport. During the attempted robbery, he injured a family member of a Make-A-Wish Foundation recipient who tried to stop him.
The officer, Ronald Harris, is seen on surveillance footage running through crowds at the Memphis Airport and assaulting at least one person. According to WREG, Harris was trying to rob a Make-A-Wish family of the money they had been given by the organization to take a “dream” trip.
Harris is accused of following a St. Jude’s Hospital employee carrying a bag containing several Make-A-Wish shirts and a credit card with $1,500 on it and trying to steal the bag. He head-butted a member of the recipient family who tried to stop him and injured man so severely that he needed stitches.

Police say Harris violently resisted arrest after officers arrived at the scene. He allegedly tried to fight several police officers and attempted to escape from custody. He is suspended from the police force and is charged with escape from felony incarceration, robbery and aggravated assault. His bond is set at $25,000 and he is due in court on Monday.
