Matthew McConaughey spent his 48th birthday giving presents to others, delivering 4,500 free Thanksgiving turkeys to people in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
In a Facebook Live video, the award-winning actor announced his participation in the donation event and surprised the hundreds of volunteers who came out to deliver turkeys.
"Today, we, me and 250 volunteers, are going to deliver 4,5000 turkeys to people around Lawrenceburg, and the volunteers that are here don't know I'm here, so Eddie Russell's about to invite me on hopefully to surprise them... And it's my birthday," he said.
After his presence was revealed, McConaughey shared his reasons for being there with the assembled volunteers.
"Thanksgiving, gratitude, we believe in our family that the more you're thankful for, the more that you show gratification, the more that you're gonna create in your life to be thankful for," he said. "I think it's kinda scientific and here's kind of living proof of it right here this morning."
E! News reports that the frozen turkeys were donated by Butterball and distributed by Wild Turkey. McConaughey is a spokesperson for Wild Turkey bourbon.
"Lets go make some people happy and put some smiles on some faces, deliver some turkeys, there's some people that are gonna be happy to get 'em," McConaughey told the other volunteers before heading out to deliver the turkeys on Nov. 4. "Just keep livin', thanks for being here."
A second video posted to McConaughey's Facebook page shows the star as he surprised a group of women at home.
Dumbfounded at first, the women eventually tell McConaughey to call them the "Hot Mamas."
"That's my nickname for my wife. I can't call y'all that," he replied.
One of the "Hot Mamas" later asks McConaughey if he brought them any Wild Turkey.
"No, I did not bring Wild Turkey. There's a Wild Turkey hidden inside the turkey," he responds.
Other Lawrenceburg residents and volunteers made sure to grab photos with McConaughey and post them on Instagram.
"When volunteering has a slight benefit," read one caption.
"Happy Birthday, Matthew!!" wrote another, underneath a photo of her and McConaughey.
McConaughey, who won an Oscar for his performance in "Dallas Buyers Club," is no stranger to charity work, founding his own charity with his wife, Camila.
The Just Keep Livin' Foundation primarily focuses on health, fitness and wellness programs in inner city high schools, according to the foundation's website.
