A 28-year-old math teacher from Virginia faces a maximum sentence of 22 years in prison after she reportedly admitted to police that she had sex with four different students because it made her feel "attractive and wanted."
Colonial Forge High School teacher Erica Mesa, who was arrested in September and lost her job, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of electronic solicitation of a minor and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, reports the Daily Mail. But Mesa, who was married to another teacher for two years before the crimes were committed, also allegedly admitted to authorities that she had sex with two more students whose ages ranged from 16 to 18.
Mesa's sentencing will take place at Stafford Circuit Court on May 21, where she could receive the maximum penalty of 22 years. In exchange for her guilty pleas, she was let off the hook from four charges and had two other charges reduced.
After the school received an anonymous phone call about Mesa, it was discovered that she had sent nude photos of herself to a minor and that she engaged in sex with them in her SUV or at her home when her husband wasn't there.
In one account, Mesa confessed to police that she had sex with one student in her house while another waited in the basement for his turn.
One of the students was reportedly 16 when they began their sexual relationship in 2013.
Mesa's attorney Mark Gardner asked Judge Victoria Willis to release his client on bond, but his request was denied. He claims the teacher is not a pedophile because she was "not preying on people who had no interest in participating."
As part of her plea bargain, Mesa will have to register as a sex offender.
