A Colorado man took drastic measures to protect his Donald Trump lawn sign after he discovered it had been hit by cars several times since he first displayed it.
“This, I think it's the fifth sign that I've had to put up,” Chuck Corry said, WTOC reported. “I'm a Trump supporter, but I'm also p----- off."
The sign now features a nail board that’s designed to puncture the tires of any car that runs it over, as well as other security measures to protect it from further vandalization. The sign is supported by fence posts, rebar, glue, a dog leash and cables to prevent it from being destroyed.
“They run over it again a couple of times, so that's why I put the nail board down,” Corry said. “I've never run into this kind of problems."
Corry said he’s been putting up yard signs for 16 years but never experienced anything like what’s happened with his Trump signs.
People of all political parties agreed that Corry’s signs shouldn’t be vandalized just because of their statements or affiliations.
“That's what signs are about, and that's what we are about as a country,” Democrat Kathleen Ricker said. “We are diverse and we have a lot of different opinions, and as long as we respect each other and listen and respect their right to have signs, we are all OK."
Corry allegedly invested $60 and several hours of work to ensure that the sign was properly protected, and he said he’d go even further if need be.
“I'm an ornery, stubborn old' bugger,” he said. “And, as I said, a Marine. And if you want to play games, OK, I'm good at playing games."
The story garnered angry reactions from readers across the Internet who expressed their disgust over the vandalism.
“This is so sad that there are people who think they have the right to destroy [others'] property cause they don't like it! I hope those doing this will get caught and pay for all!” one reader commented on Newsiosity’s Facebook page.
"See this is what is happening so much hatred is being spewed that it is now leading to destruction," another added. "I am a Sec. Clinton supporter but if one of my neighbors is a [T]rump supporter what satisfaction would I get from knocking down their sign? Disgusting!!"
