A marketing agency has created a powerful ad campaign in which a simple laundry detergent commercial delivers a statement about the double standards between men and women in society (video below).
The ad, created by BBDO Mumbai, shows a father watching his daughter, who now has her own family, frantically running around the house taking care of her child and her husband, who sits on the couch watching television.
As her father watches her doing all of the house chores alone, he begins to realize how the examples he and her husband's father set for their children have affected the next generation, says Little Things.
During the second half of the commercial, the father apologizes to his daughter and vows to make a better effort to put in his fair share to set a better example for future generations.
"Sorry on behalf of every dad who set the wrong example," her father says. "But it's not too late... I will make a conscious effort to help your mom with the household chores. I may not become the king of the kitchen, but at least I can help out with the laundry. All these years I've been wrong, it's time to set things right."
The commercial closes with the message, "Why is laundry only a mother's job? Dads #ShareTheLoad."
The campaign made a massive impact around the world, the advertisement garnering millions of views on YouTube and the hashtag #ShareTheLoad trending on various social media platforms.
