Man Writes Own 3-Word Obituary: "I Am Dead"
As his final joke, 92-year-old Swedish man Stig Kernell wrote his own obituary and kept it as short as possible.
It read: “I am dead.”
Prior to his passing, Kernell apparently instructed a local funeral home to publish the short obituary -- which was then printed in a national newspaper.
The brief statement was reflective of Kernell’s sense of humor, one of his sons said.
“He was a special man with a lot of humor and a twinkle in his eye.”
Kernell’s son added that the obituary has helped the family cope with his death. It has also inspired a number of other more detailed obituaries, since the humorous obituary created headlines and sparked the curiosity of readers.
Kernell was an aerospace historian and transport technician with a pilot’s license. He held a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest aviation literature collection.
