Man Wins Lottery Twice Using One Easy Trick

A Matteson, Illinois, man won the lottery twice by sticking to a simple strategy.

Every week, retired school administrator Larry Gambles, 65, buys seven lottery tickets, one for each day of the week, using the same five numbers, ABC News reports. Gambles has been playing the lottery for 15 years, but for the past nine years he's been following the strategy of always using the same numbers. That strategy has paid off twice.

Nine years ago, Gambles won $50,000 playing the Little Lotto.

On June 7, he won more than $1 million playing the Lucky Day Lotto with the same numbers.

“I always play the same numbers,” Gambles said. “I never change it.”

“I can’t believe they paid off again!,” he said, according to the Chicago Tribune.

His lucky numbers are 01 - 06 - 12 - 14 - 25, and they all mean something to him, ABC News notes. They include the jersey number of one of his football heroes, his jersey numbers from when he played football and basketball in high school and the number he wore at his University of Illinois fraternity.

Gambles buys his seven lottery tickets once a week from a gas station on his way home. He chooses to buy them in bulk in case of a snow storm or something else that would prevent him from getting to the convenience store.

He enjoys sitting down every morning after his workout to read the winning lottery numbers in a print newspaper delivered to his home.

Gambles feels extremely lucky to have won the lottery twice.

“I equate gambling with dice, cards and casinos,” he said. “To me, lottery is just luck.”

Gambles plans to use his lottery winnings to set up annuities for his 34-year-old daughter and 3-year-old granddaughter. The remaining funds will be shared with family and friends.

He does plan to continue playing the lottery every day with the same numbers.

“I will continue until I can’t play anymore,” Gambles said. “I feel very fortunate, and I feel blessed, and I’m very grateful.”

The gas station that sold Gambles his winning ticket will receive a bonus of $10,500, which is 1 percent of the prize amount.

Gambles recommends fellow lottery players follow his strategy.

“Pick your favorite numbers and stick with them," he said. "It worked for me!”
