A man who attempted to rob en elderly person at knifepoint faced a humiliating dose of karma when a crowd caught him in the middle of the act and cling wrapped him to a pole naked.
Reports say that 32-year-old Valentino Abeyta Barrera was attempting to rob an elderly man at knifepoint in a busy area of Santiago when the crowd who witnessed the crime occurring grabbed him, stripped him naked, and used cling wrap to tie him to a lamppost.
The man was clearly humiliated as a large group of bystanders stood in a circle around him and took pictures with their phones and cameras. Finally, police showed up some time later, and the man begged them free him.
Barrera was reportedly taken to the police station for questioning but was eventually let go because the elderly man did not press charges for the knifepoint robbery.
“Unless the man who was tied to the lamppost or his alleged victim want to file a complaint, there is not much we can do,” said a police spokesperson.
As pictures of the man wrapped to the lamppost started to spread online, many people seemed to agree with what the crowd did.
“I would like to do the same thing to the thief who threatened me with a weapon this morning,” said one commenter, according to Metro UK.
Still, others thought the humiliation went too far.
“They just had to arrest him, not beat him,” another commenter allegedly said. “This kind of things put us at the same level as the criminals.”
Do you think Barrera got what he deserved?
