Man Who Spent 10 Years Looking For Mom Realizes She Was Hiding In Plain Sight The Entire Time

A Michigan man was shocked to discover that the birth mom he had been searching for his entire life was one of his coworkers.

Steve Flaig, 28, spent years searching for his birth mother, but was unable to find information that would lead him to her. At 22 years old, he was working at a local Lowe’s store and still holding on to hope that he would one day find his birth mother.

At the age of 18, Flaig found information about his birth mother, including her name, and began to run searches online to track her down. Four years later, Flaig realized that he had been typing her last name Tallady incorrectly as Talladay, and when he corrected his spelling mistake, he found the address of a woman named Chris who lived less than a mile from the Lowe’s where he worked.

Flaig then told the story to his boss, who responded, “You mean Chris Tallady, who works here?”

Flaig was shocked to discover that his birth mother had been working at the Lowe’s store for months, and they had only known each other in passing.

"I was like, there's no possible way," he said. "It's just such a bizarre situation."

Flaig said he avoided approaching her for two months before he finally went into the adoption agency’s office and asked for their help telling her.

"The first thing that crossed my mind is something was wrong with him," said Tallady of the call she received from the agency. "And then she said, 'Christine, he works with you.’ It was a shock. I started crying. I figured he would call me sometime, but not like this."

Days later, the two finally met as mother and son rather than two coworkers and talked for hours. After years of being apart, the mother and son who knew each other in passing were finally really together.
