A man from Niagara Falls, New York, who was convicted for impregnating an 11-year-old child has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Jacky Berry pleaded guilty on charges of having sexual relations with the young girl in 2010. The victim, who is now 16, gave birth to a son in 2011 and DNA testing confirmed that the 53-year-old convicted sex offender is his father, reports the Huffington Post.
Even after the 15-year sentence is up, Judge Sara Sheldon assured him his was more or less a “life sentence” because he was also given 20 additional years of post-release supervision.
Berry was convicted of sex abuse in 1990 and served eight years in prison for sexually abusing an 7-year-old girl.
Berry reportedly offered an apology in court, but Defense Attorney James Faso Jr. said Berry didn’t have more to say about it and refused to be interviewed by a probation officer, reports WTOP.
“He didn’t feel there was anything to add,” Faso said. “He had a child with this child, and feels terrible he made her grow up faster than she should grow up.”
