Man Who Fatally Shot Walmart Customer During Fight Yet To Be Charged

An Arizona man who shot and killed someone at Walmart during a fight has yet to be charged. The shooter, 25-year-old Cyle Wayne Quadlin, is claiming self-defense. He says he shot Kriston Charles Belinte Chee, 36, because Chee was beating him in the fight.

Quadlin and Chee were both shopping at Walmart when the fight broke out. It’s not clear what started the altercation. Several witnesses to the incident will likely soon testify in court about how the fight started. The fight and subsequent shooting was caught on surveillance tape.

“Mr. Quadlin was losing the fight and indicated he ‘was in fear for his life,’ so he pulled his gun and shot Mr. Belinte Chee,” Phoenix police spokesman Joe Favazzo said.

Chee was rushed to the hospital, where he was soon pronounced dead. Quadlin stayed at Walmart for a few moments following the shooting before fleeing. Police found him only after conducting a search.

Quadlin has not yet been charged for the shooting. Favazzo said the Phoenix police department will submit the surveillance tapes to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for investigation. The outcome of the investigation will determine whether Quadlin is charged for murder or absolved under the guise of self-defense.

“Just like what the guy said, he [Quadlin] was not winning,” said Favazzo. “It's going to come down to what the witnesses have to say.”

Favazzo said Quadlin and Chee did not know each other prior to the shooting. He added that Quadlin is fully cooperating with investigators.

Walmart spokeswoman Dianna Gee said the company is working with police to provide them with any information they need. The company’s “thoughts and prayers are with all of those involved,” Gee said.
