An Ohio college student who believed he was on his way to trade chicken Alfredo and Sprite for sex with a 15-year-old boy was instead arrested by police as part of a sting operation.
Albert Maruna IV, 22, was charged with attempted unlawful sexual contact with a minor, disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, possessing criminal tools and importuning.
Police became aware of Maruna after he replied to a post on a dating app made by an undercover officer, according to WKBN. The officer was posing as a 15-year-old boy.
As part of his cover, the officer repeatedly told Maruna he was only 15. Maruna reportedly didn't care, telling the officer he didn't believe in age.
The conversation between Maruna and the officer turned sexual and Maruna sent the officer nude photos of himself. Police believe Maruna developed feelings for the "boy," telling the officer he was his "one and only," and how he wanted them to marry one day, according to WKBN.
The two agreed to meet for sex on Dec. 12. Maruna reportedly promised to bring lube, Sprite and chicken Alfredo.
When police arrested Maruna he was carrying a cellphone, a laptop computer, three external drives, a bottle of Astroglide lube, Vaseline, two bottles of Spite and the promised chicken Alfredo, WOIO reports.
While being questioned by police, Maruna stood by his position that having sex with a minor was not wrong, according to WKBN.
Chicken Alfredo isn't the strangest thing people have ever tried to exchange for sex. In 2013, a New Mexico man was found with a prostitute who told police she was going to have sex with the man in exchange for a meal from McDonald's, according to HuffPost. The woman was not arrested, but the man was arrested on drug possession charges.
An eerily similar case occurred in California a year earlier. In 2012, a woman was arrested for suspected prostitution after she told a man in the McDonald's drive-thru she'd have sex with him if he gave her the McNuggets he'd just ordered, according to HuffPost.
The trend of trading food for sex also extends beyond McDonald's. In 2013, a New York City man posted on Craigslist seeking a woman who was willing to trade oral sex for a Cronut, according to Refinery29. Cronuts, a hybrid between a croissant and a donut, were wildly popular at the time with people waiting in line for hours to buy one.
"Considering the mayhem of the last two months," wrote Refinery29, "we bet he even got some responses."
