Raymond Johnson, 38, shot and killed his wife, Rebekah Johnson, 32, in their Oregon City home on Nov. 25, 2014. Johnson also shot himself in the chest but survived.
The couple’s children, ages 5 and 7, were inside the home when the shooting occurred. Their 17-year-old nephew was also at the couple’s home on the day of the shooting. He heard his aunt scream, ‘No,’ before hearing gunshots ring out.
He found the couple wounded outside in the driveway, the Daily Mail reports. Rebekah Johnson died at OHSU Hospital the next day.
The nephew told police that Raymond's father died two days before the shooting. Raymond's brother and wife had also reportedly been involved in a sexual relationship for about six months, which the whole family became aware of it on the day of the shooting, according to an affidavit, as reported by Oregon Live.
Apparently Johnson had been behaving strangely in the weeks leading up to the fatal shooting. According to the Daily Mail, Johnson was on constant pain medication after a car accident last year.
Neighbors were shocked upon learning the devastating news. Neighbors say the Johnsons seemed friendly.
"I never saw an argument," Bob Black, who lives two homes down from the couple, told Oregon Live.
Steve Morrow, who owns the Select Market, knew Rebekah Johnson. He told Oregon Live, “The whole community is going to miss her."
A search warrant reveals that police seized eight rifles and a backpack with ammunition, as well as the revolver used to kill Rebekah Johnson, from the couple’s home, according to the Daily Mail.
Johnson is being held without bail at the Clackamas County Jail. Oregon Live reports that a January 2016 trial date has been scheduled.
