Man Shoots Friend Because He Brought Him The Wrong Beer

A 64-year-old man from Harvey, Louisiana, was reportedly so angry at his friend for bringing him a beer he doesn't like that he shot him.

Clarence Sturdivant asked his neighbor and years-long friend Walter Merrick, 66, to bring him a beer while the two were talking on Saturday, March 7 in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Merrick complied -- but it turned out to be a can of Busch beer and not a Budweiser, which is Sturdivant's preferred brand, reports

The friends began to argue over which beer is better and Sturdivant reportedly became so enraged that he fired a 20-gauge shotgun at him and wounded Merrick on his elbow, arm, and chest. His injuries are not life-threatening, according to police.

The suspect was arrested, but said he only fired at Merrick in self-defense after he had pulled a gun on him first. Police did not find a weapon on Merrick, but issued him a citation for aggravated assault. Meanwhile, they reportedly discovered 20-gauge shotgun cartridges in Sturdivan's truck, as well as a spent 20-gauge shotgun cartridge at the scene of the crime.

Sturdivant was arrested on unrelated charges that included two attachments from Jefferson Parish's 24th Judicial District Court. He reportedly failed to appear in court after a December 2013 arrest for resisting an officer and interfering with police. He has been released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on $1,000 bond.
