A 9-year-old girl was accidentally shot, on Saturday night, by a family member who thought she was a skunk, outside a New Sewickley Township, Pennsylvania home.
New Sewickley Police Chief Ronald Leindecker said an unidentified male relative mistook the girl, who was wearing a black costume with a white tassel, for a skunk and shot her in the shoulder with a shotgun.
Apparently the girl was walking on a hillside outside the home, reports TimesOnline.com.
The girl was alert and talking when she was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Police Chief Leindecker said the shooter had not been drinking. He added that police are still investigating and they will turn over the case to the Beaver County district attorney’s office.
