A Louisiana man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a 4-year-old girl.
William Harvey Watson, 24, of Slidell, also pleaded guilty to possessing and producing child pornography, reports CNN. On Nov. 27, Watson received a 30-year sentence for his charge of sexual battery of a victim under 13, 25 years for his 250 counts of possession of child pornography, and 25 years for his 27 counts of counts of production of child pornography of children under the age of 13. He will serve all of the sentences concurrently, meaning he will be in prison for 30 years.
In February, Watson was left alone with the 4-year-old victim for a short time. When the girl's mother got home, she discovered the door was locked, and Watson took several minutes to unlock it.
When the mother got back into the house, she saw that the young girl's clothes were inside out and disheveled, the district attorney's office said. The mother called police, who arrested Watson.
Police obtained a search warrant for Watson's home and electronic devices, where they found 473 images and 10 videos of child pornography involving children under 13.
Watson confessed to touching the 4-year-old and taking sexual photos. He also told investigators he had a sexually transmitted infection.
Watson also admitted he had been caught years earlier sexually abusing an 18-month-old girl in Texas, reports The Times-Picayune.
The majority of the children in the material found on Watson's computer were under 5 years old, and one was an 8-month-old baby. Many of the children were in the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's database.
Watson said he used the images and videos to "satisfy [the] urges" he had toward children.
Assistant District Attorney Blair Alford called for a harsher sentence for Watson, and filed a motion requesting that the judge increase
his sentence. The 4-year-old victim's family requested that Watson face the maximum sentence, 99 years of prison time for the sexual battery and production of child pornography charges, and 40 years for the possession of child pornography charges.
In October, another Louisiana man was convicted for sexually abusing two young girls, according to The Associated Press. Charles Pineda, 66, of Covington, was convicted by a jury of two counts of sexual battery of a child under age 13.
Pineda was a family friend to the two girls, who were 5 and 8 when Pineda reportedly began to abuse them. The older girl was abused from 2008 to 2012, when she turned 12, and the younger girl was abused in October 2014, said District Attorney Warren Montgomery.
District Judge Raymond Childress scheduled Pineda's sentencing to take place on Dec. 12. Pineda faces a maximum of 99 years in prison and a minimum of 25 years without the possibility of parole, suspended sentence or probation.
