Man Sentenced To Life In Prison After Stealing $22

South Carolina man James Bailey was sentenced to life in prison under the state’s two-strikes law, after he held a Dollar General manager at knifepoint and stealing $22.

Investigators said that Bailey walked into a Dollar General in Greenville in April of 2013, then held a knife to the manager’s throat and demanded money. An employee called 911, followed by Bailey’s arrest after he walked out of the store with $22 in hand. Although he initially resisted, deputies managed to capture the 50-year-old.

Deputies later recovered the knife, as well as the money Bailey had stolen.

On Friday, Bailey was convicted of robbery, kidnapping, possessing a weapon during a violent crime and resisting arrest. During the sentencing, the assistant solicitor presented evidence of Bailey’s 11 prior convictions for armed robbery.

Under the two-strikes law, Bailey will not be eligible for parole.
