A man who punched and robbed a pregnant woman working at a Boost Mobile store in Pensacola, Florida has been arrested. The suspect, Vincent Lavon Johnson, faced worldwide scrutiny last week after video footage of him punching Jessica Smith, 35, went viral.
On the footage, Smith is seen politely greeting Johnson as he enters the store. Johnson wanders around the store for a few moments before making his way back to the register. When Smith asks how she can help him, Johnson punches her in the face. The terrified woman then stays on the ground as Johnson takes all of the money in the register.
Here’s the footage:
After the video was widely shared on the web, the Pensacola Police Department received several tips about where Johnson might be found. On June 19, a Pensacola officer saw Johnson walk by his patrol car. He chased the man, but Johnson evaded him. The department then unleashed a K9 dog on Johnson, and the dog tracked him to a nearby home. He was arrested on the spot. Johnson’s criminal record is littered with past battery and theft charges.
Smith, meanwhile, is reportedly in good health. She was taken to the hospital and treated for a broken nose following the robbery, but was otherwise unharmed.
