A McDonald’s customer in Canada certainly got more than he bargained for when he purchased a coffee from the fast food restaurant and apparently found a dead mouse at the bottom of the cup.
Ron Morais of Fredericton, Canada claims he had already drank nearly all of the black coffee when he made the gruesome discovery.
“I always take the lid off to get my last sip of coffee,” the 57-year-old explained. “And when I took the lid off, there was a little bit of a surprise in my coffee cup.”
“It was a dead mouse,” Morais said.
Morais’ co-workers said they wouldn’t have believed him had they not seen the mouse for themselves.
“Unless I had been there and seen Ron drink all that coffee down to the last drop, I would have been like, ‘You’re lying,’” said colleague Brad Patterson.
McDonald’s began an investigation after hearing the allegations.
Metro reports that so far, however, there has been “no evidence of pests” at the branch.
“We are continuing to investigate this isolated incident and have reached out to the customer to obtain the product sample,” McDonald’s said in a statement.
“Food safety and quality are a top priority for McDonald’s Canada and all of our restaurants are held to high industry standards,” the statement read.
Morais said that he is keeping the cup and the mouse in a freezer in his home until they are picked up by a McDonald’s representative.
Morais, for his part, admitted to “a little queasiness” at the time of the incident, but is reported to remain upbeat about the incident. Morais said that, on his boss’s advice, he went to the hospital to get checked out, but was sent home and told to come back if he felt sick.
“I’m in better shape than the mouse,” Morais said.
