A Florida man confessed to murdering a woman just to see what it felt like.
Christopher William Shows, 21, was arrested Dec. 19 for the murder of his girlfriend’s cousin, Amanda Gayle Suarez, reports the New York Post.
Suarez, also 21, was killed inside her home in Okeechobee, Florida, on Dec. 7. One of her four children was allegedly home when the attack occurred.
“In his confession, it was just he wanted to know what murder was about. Unfortunately, it was no rhyme no reason. He just wanted to know what murder felt like,” said Sheriff-elect Noel Stephen, as quoted by WPTV.
Shows reportedly shot Suarez in the back with a .22-caliber rifle after she rebuffed his sexual advances. He then positioned the body in the form of a crucifix and had sex with the corpse.
Police were summoned to the scene when a family member discovered the body. On a nearby road, investigators found Suarez’s blood-drenched cell phone, which contained a photo of Shows sleeping on the victim’s sofa less than 30 minutes before the murder.
The suspect was arrested and charged with murder, battery, and desecration of a body.
To help cover funeral expenses, Suarez’s family has set up a GoFundMe page. The family also issued a lengthy statement, released by WPTV, part of which is relayed here:
The children and their father are currently residing with paternal grandparents and the children are all receiving counseling. While the arrest is in the beginning, we firmly believe in the judicial system and know that justice will be served in this cae. We know that god is the ultimate decision maker, and that Amanda rests comfortably in heaven.
A neighbor of the victim, Bobby Walker, suggested that vigilante justice would be more appropriate than letting the courts handle it. “I think someone ought to kill him,” he said.
