A Michigan was arrested and charged with trying to kidnap a woman he met through a Craigslist ad.
Michigan State Police troopers stopped a 40-year-old man in Shiawassee County around 3:20 a.m. on May 13 on suspicion of drunk driving, but what they found inside the vehicle was much worse.
Troopers heard a woman’s voice calling for help as they approached the vehicle. When they looked inside, they found a 22-year-old Okemos, Michigan, woman in the car with a bag over her head, her mouth taped and her hands tied behind her back, MLive reported.
According to Lieutenant David Kaiser, the man and woman met recently through Craigslist. He said the man was searching for a submissive-type woman and began a relationship with the 22-year-old woman.
The suspect allegedly used a fake email address and a fake name. He also sent the woman fake pictures, Kaiser said.
They agreed to meet near the man’s Chesaning, Michigan, home and the woman quickly realized she had been duped. She tried to end the date and that’s when the man tied her up and held her against her will, say police.
The woman did not go down without a fight. She began kicking the back seat of the man’s car, causing him to swerve, WNEM reported. Police then pulled the man over, thinking he was drunk.
Kaiser said the victim was not seriously injured and she did not seek medical treatment. The man was booked into Shiawassee County Jail on suspicion of kidnapping and assault by strangulation.
