A Los Angeles man was arrested for shooting and killing his own father on New Year’s Eve after his father allegedly killed his mother, girlfriend, and friend.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a “gunshot victim” at a Rowland Heights home around 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 31. When they arrived, they recovered a semi-automatic handgun and found two men, ages 54 and 27, and two women, ages 48 and 54, suffering from gunshot wounds, according to KTLA. They were all pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the victims have not yet been officially released, though a woman who visited the scene told Los Angeles Times that one victim was her son, 27-year-old Ernesto Calzadilla.
Lt. John Corina told Los Angeles Times that the 54-year-old man shot his son’s mother, girlfriend and friend. The son, who Los Angeles Times identified as 33-year-old Christopher Morey, then reportedly wrestled his father to the ground, took the gun from him, and killed him with one shot, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Morey called the police after the incident and was arrested at the scene for killing his father. He is being held on $1 million bail.
“We’ll see what the D.A. wants to do,” Corina told Los Angeles Times, according to KTLA. “We’re going to book him for what he did — he killed another human being. The district attorney will decide if it was justified.”
