Pennsylvania Police Receives Complaints About Foul Smell, Discover Body In Trash

A Pennsylvania man has been arrested after confessing to killing his girlfriend and storing her body in his closet.

Hasan Gooden-Reid, 34, has been charged with criminal homicide, abuse of corpse, aggravated assault, criminal mischief and other charges, WNEP reported.

“I don’t got nothing to say, can you just take camera off me right now? Gracias,” Gooden-Reid told reporters as he was being taken into custody.

He was arrested Tuesday evening after police received numerous complaints about a foul smell coming from his Williamsport apartment.

Gooden-Reid told police he killed his girlfriend, Kristina Pope, earlier this month. He said he had gotten into an argument with her over a broken toilet inside his apartment on July 7.

The argument reportedly ended with Gooden-Reid stabbing Pope four times in back, wrapping her body in a blanket and throwing her in a closet. According to the arrest affidavit, Pope grabbed the knife first before Gooden-Reid took it from her.

Gooden-Reid told police he moved Pope’s body from the closet into the trash. Neighbors were shocked as they watched a forensic team and police go through Gooden-Reid’s garbage.

“I look and I see all this police tape everywhere and I’m like, ‘oh, my God,’” one neighbor told WNEP.

Police found Pope’s remains later that day. They found a human jaw bone in a trash container, Penn Live reported. Police said substantial damage was done to Gooden-Reid’s apartment because of the decomposing body.

“Oh, I can smell it again. It’s awful,” said another neighbor.

Gooden-Reid was booked into Lycoming County Prison and is being held without bail. He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 13.
