An Oklahoma man has been charged with first-degree murder for killing his girlfriend’s son, allegedly because the baby would not stop crying during a football game on TV.
On Dec. 7, Tre'viance Markese Walker, 22, was mad that he had lost $200 on the University of Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State football game and irritated at the baby’s crying. He picked up the 5-month-old infant “with such force as to snap the baby’s neck,” Walker’s neighbor Jimmy Shannon told Fox 25.
He also gripped the baby from its head and dropped him from two feet in the air into his playpen.
Walker was home alone with the baby while his girlfriend, aunt and uncle were out running errands, according to Shannon.
Walker called the police later that day, telling them the baby, referred to only as “J.B.”, was “unresponsive,” reported The Oklahoman. J.B. was taken to the hospital with head trauma and bleeding from one ear, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy found a hematoma on his brain, a result of the head injury.
“It’s heart wrenching,” said Shannon. “It’s disgusting, and it just makes me sick to my stomach.”
Walker initially claimed he had not touched the baby, but later admitted to his actions. An arrest was made a full week after the J.B.’s death when an arrest warrant and “probable cause” affidavit were filed by the police department.
“Detectives that were investigating this had some indication that he may be getting ready to skip,” Captain Tom Easley of the Norman Police Department told News 9.
Walker awaits charges at the Cleveland County jail, where he is being held without bond.
