Police in Albany, New York say a man may have jumped off of a bridge during a major accident to avoid getting hit by oncoming traffic.
Reports say the man’s vehicle slid into a guardrail on Interstate 90, and when he went out to check on it, he realized vehicles were coming right towards him. To avoid get pinned between his car and an oncoming vehicle, he apparently jumped off of the Patroon Island Bridge.
The man reportedly fell more than 50 feet, but despite that long drop, witnesses say he got up and walked up the side of a hill and back onto the bridge.
In a bizarre twist of fate, as soon as the man walked back onto the bridge, he was hit by a semitrailer traveling at around 25 miles per hour.
Officials say the man was taken to a local hospital with broken bones, lacerations and road rash, and at this time, his condition is unknown.
