Man Sentenced To 10 Days For Throwing Woman Off Balcony

A Tennessee man was sentenced on Oct. 24 to 10 days in jail after pleading guilty to throwing a woman off a hotel balcony.

Wesley Dylan Marshall, 24, pushed the 19-year-old woman from a second-story balcony in July, after she refused to have sex with him, reports Raw Story.

The incident happened at a motel in Church Hill, Tennessee. Marshall and another man checked in with the woman, who was celebrating her birthday, according to police.

The woman allegedly had sex with the other man, but refused to have sex with Marshall. Angered by the rejection of his sexual advances, he angrily pushed her off the balcony.

When police arrived on the scene, the young woman was crying on the ground, and was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, reports the Kingsport Times News.

Marshall pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge. In addition to being sentenced to 10 days in jail, Marshall has also been ordered to serve 11 months and 29 days of probation, as well as 96 hours of community service. He was also sentenced to anger management classes, fined $1,237 and ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Marshall will be eligible for early release after serving 75 percent of his jail time.

The light sentence recalls the highly publicized case of Brock Turner, a college student who raped an unconscious woman, but who received a shockingly lenient sentence after he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, as reported by the Daily Mail.

In a similar case involving another college student, John P. Enochs was charged with felony rape, but spent only one day in jail after pleading guilty to the lesser charge of misdemeanor battery with moderate bodily injury.
