A man in Utah said he found 3 ounces of marijuana inside a drink can his girlfriend purchased at Wal-Mart, KSL reported.
Keanu Netzler of Salt Lake City, Utah, said his girlfriend came home with a can of Arizona Iced Tea Mucho Mango drink after grocery shopping at Wal-Mart on Nov. 29. When Netzler had difficulty opening the can, he began to investigate.
"I started cutting around the top," he told KSL.
The man then reportedly discovered the marijuana contained within a cement jar inside the can.
After his girlfriend told him she had bought the can at Wal-Mart, Netzler called the police to notify them of his discovery.
Lt. Lex Bell of Salt Lake City police, who responded to the call, said he had seen drugs stored in beverage containers before, but never in one that was still on a store shelf.
Bell told KSL he believed drug dealers placed the marijuana in the drink can at Wal-Mart, possibly as a way to transfer it to a buyer without having to meet face-to-face.
Police are still investigating the incident.
This is not the first incidence in which marijuana has turned up in an unexpected place.
In September, a mother in Fayetteville, North Carolina, discovered the illegal substance in her 5-year-old son's lunch box when he came home from school, ABC 11 reported at the time. It was allegedly placed there by an older student who shared a lunch period with the boy.
In another incident in June, a Colorado family discovered marijuana in their rental car while traveling to Missouri, reported CBS 4.
