A Pennsylvania man took his case of the munchies too far after he reportedly stole a pizza from a Papa John’s restaurant and threw a brick at a delivery driver’s car.
According to a police report, Michael Runko, 28, was under the influence of alcohol when he walked into a Papa John’s restaurant near Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania on May 3, demanding a free pizza.
“Well everybody wants a free pizza. I mean, how can you fault him for that,” said Desiree Kramer, who lives near the Papa John’s, WNEP reported. “And besides, depending on what refreshments he had, he probably had the munchies.”
When employees refused to give Runko a free pizza, he allegedly ran past the counter, assaulted an employee, grabbed a couple pizzas and walked out the back door.
“It’s liquid courage. They think they can do what they want, you know?” Robert Longo, another neighbor, said of Runko’s actions. “Some people call it liquid stupidity.”
Runko is also accused of demanding money from a delivery driver, hitting him in the face and throwing a brick at his vehicle, PennLive.com reported.
Police would eventually find Runko hiding in a bush near Kramer’s home. Harvey Kramer told WNEP he could hear the commotion from his bedroom.
“Screaming. Screaming and hollering and carrying on,” Kramer explained. “Besides yelling for his friend Dave, he was yelling for his mom. ‘Mom! Mom! Dumb kid. He better hope his mom don’t come. She’ll probably whack him in his head.”
Runko was booked into Snyder County Prison and is being held on $100,000 bail. He is facing charges of robbery, aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest, harassment, theft, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
The owner of the Papa John’s branch said that none of his employees were injured from the incident. They went right back to work following Runko’s arrest.
