A Washington man and woman only knew each for a few hours when their first date took a horrific turn.
Pierce County sheriff’s detectives say a 47-year-old Port Orchard woman ran over and killed her date, 53-year-old Leon Shaw. She then crashed his truck down a 15-foot embankment. The woman, who was not identified, is now in critical condition.
Police have been unable to interview the woman because of her medical condition, said sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer.
Authorities believe alcohol played a role in the incident. The pair allegedly drank Saturday night before visiting the home of one of Shaw’s friends. Police say they continued drinking at the home.
At one point, the woman allegedly asked a tattoo artist friend to tattoo her chest, The News Tribune reported. During the tattoo, she and the artist became intimate, which prompted an argument between her and Shaw, Troyer said. The woman allegedly punched Shaw, and he allegedly slapped her.
She left the house wearing only a T-shirt and got into Shaw’s truck. Witnesses said Shaw went outside to see where she was going. Moments later his friends found him dead in the driveway, according to Troyer.
The woman reportedly crashed his truck a quarter mile away from the home. She was trapped inside until first responders arrived.
Troyer said investigators are still unsure of whether she ran over Shaw intentionally.
“We still have some investigating to do,” he said.
