Clackamas, Oregon, deputies said Zachary Burkenbine and Krystal Bohannon found a small dog by the side of the road in a box labeled “free.” Instead of taking the mixed-breed pooch to someplace more safe, the next day Burkenbine took the dog out and allegedly kicked the dog so much, it had to be euthanized.
An unidentified person called 911 on the evening of June 28, claiming Burkenbine was kicking the dog five to ten times with every step. Deputies found the dog with visible injuries and blood dripping from its tail. Medical staff at an emergency veterinary clinic decided to euthanize the animal due to the repeated kicking, KXL reported.
Deputies said Bohannon also allegedly mooned the 911 caller, hit their car and made an obscene gesture, KGW reported. She also admitted that she lied about giving the dog medical treatment because she didn’t want to go to jail.
Burkenbine told investigators that he was using a leash to pull the dog in order to train it how to walk with a leash. He has since been charged with felony abuse of an animal.
For her part, Bohannon might face disorderly conduct charges, which have been referred to the District Attorney's Office.
