The family of a 34-year-old mother of two was grieving Saturday after the woman was stabbed earlier that morning.
Yolunda Bolton was found dead on her doorstep by her son.
“When he opened the door, she was laying right there in a puddle of blood,” Felicia Pigues, a cousin, told WREG.
According to relatives, Danterio Perkins, Bolton’s ex-boyfriend, confronted her after she returned from work and an argument broke out, Fox 13 reported.
“I heard my mama saying stop and her ex in the background saying something, I don't know what it was,” Gerrod Bolton, Yolunda’s 15-year-old son, told WMCA. He added that 20 minutes later, he opened the door to find his mother dead.
Relatives said Yolunda had taken out a protection order against Perkins due to physical and verbal threats. They also described the pair’s relationship as volatile.
Police said that they initially responded to a reported shooting.
“Blood was everywhere, you can still see the little prints of blood,” Gerrod said.
“I can’t tell you what I’m feeling right now, but it hurts,” he added to WREG.
Yolunda’s relatives gathered at her home later on Saturday.
“We’ve been hollering, crying, falling out, it’s been rough, but right now are calm,” said Pigues.
“I feel... I feel mad,” Gerrod told WMCA. “I feel like I really need to cry, but I've done all the tear shedding I'm going to do for a couple of days.”
“I'm still in shock,” Pigues added. “I really don't believe it. After seeing the body, it's a feeling that I really can't explain.”
“Love you, momma, I hope you rest in peace,” Gerrod said.
Perkins had a court appearance Monday, according to Fox 13.
