Alexander Forba, 32, a Cameroonian living in Pretoria, South Africa, is accused of beating his girlfriend with their three-day-old daughter, killing the infant in the process.
Prosecutor Sipho Letsoalo said Forba got into a fight with his unnamed girlfriend on Feb. 15. According to Eyewitness News, Forba questioned the child’s paternity and grabbed her from his girlfriend’s back. He grabbed the baby by the feet and beat the woman with the baby’s body.
He then threw the baby to the floor and attacked his girlfriend until bystanders intervened. Letsoalo said the woman and her daughter fled to a nearby gas station, but the baby was declared dead when they arrived at Kalafong Hospital.
Best Care ambulance services spokesperson Xander Loubser told News 24 that the baby was wrapped in a towel and drowning in her own vomit when paramedics arrived. The baby allegedly had a wound on her forehead.
The woman survived the attack.
Forba has been charged with assault and murder; he stared at the judge blankly as his crimes were read into the record. Court spokesperson Velekhaya Mgobhozi said “The (case) was postponed for seven days for bail information and further investigation.”
