A Massachusetts man was arraigned Tuesday for allegedly kicking his wife and trying to stab their cat because she purchased a $1 package of freezer bags.
Kwadwo Amoafo Amaniampong, 24, flew into a rage over the freezer bags, throwing them onto a neighbor’s roof and kicking his wife.
When he calmed down, she allegedly told him she wanted to separate, and he became enraged again.
She says he grabbed one of her cats, choked it, and threw it against a wall in their Spencer home. When she tried to retrieve the frightened animal as it hid under the couch, Amaniampong took a butcher knife and tried to stab it.
When her husband finally left for work, the woman said she took her two cats and fled in her vehicle.
Amaniampong, a native of Ghana, was later arrested at his office.
Due to the serious nature of the allegations Assistant District Attorney Michael Luzzo suggested he be held on $500 bail.
A restraining order was granted to his wife.
Luzzo said after he left the home he texted his wife that she doesn’t “want to see his other side.”
Amaniampong is charged with assault and battery and animal cruelty.
His court-appointed attorney, Patricia Cantara, said he has no prior criminal record.
