Man Arrested For Assaulting 3-Year-Old Boy Outside A Florida Day Care Center

A Florida man was arrested after he mercilessly assaulted a 3-year-old boy outside a day care center, HLN-TV reports.

Police arrested Mitchell Dorn, 31, on charges of child abuse.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, Dorn stormed into the day care center in Deltona on Feb. 20 to pick the boy up. The toddler was allegedly in trouble for misbehaving.

An incident report stated that Dorn began cursing and yelling at the boy. He then grabbed the boy by his arm and dragged him through the hallway, out into the parking lot and threw him into his car.

A witness told police he heard Dorn telling the child, “If you think you are crying now, wait til we get home.” Dorn then began smacking the child and said, “If you don’t shut up, I’m going to hit you across the face.”

The witness said the sight was so shocking he had to look away. All he could hear were the screams of the child and the sound of Dorn smacking and hitting him, repeatedly, he said.

Investigators visited the boy’s residence after a report of child abuse.

The boy told them Dorn threw him in the car and smacked him several times on his bottom to the point where he was bleeding, according to the police report.

Dorn denied the boy’s claims and told officers that he had never spanked the child, but the boy said Dorn has hit him with a belt on numerous occasions.

Police arrested Dorn after finding bruises on the child’s arms and legs that were consistent with the claims, authorities said. The police report did not specify whether Dorn was the boy’s father.

According to public records, Dorn has quite the rap sheet. He has been arrested more than 20 times in Florida since 2002 for charges including battery, grand theft and resisting an officer.

Dorn was released from custody after posting a $2,500 bail. The boy has been removed from the home by the Department of Children and Families.
