A Chicago man was arrested after throwing a chunk of concrete through a window and hitting a 7-month-old baby.
The incident occurred May 3 in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. Jeremy O’Neal, 25, was involved in a domestic dispute, WLS reported.
When he was told the 19-year-old woman he was looking for was not home, O’Neal became angry and threw a concrete block through a window, investigators say.
The concrete block ended up hitting 7-month-old Jamyah Lee, who was playing on a bed inside the home, according to reports.
Jamyah was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where she was treated for skull fractures, brain swelling and internal bleeding.
O’Neal was arrested on May 14. According to a statement issued by Chicago Police, he was charged with one count of aggravated battery to a child under the age of 13 causing permanent disability.
"I'm just glad the police do their job," Patricia Hicks, the baby's grandmother, told WLS. "It's the way it should be."
"I don't let what happen frighten me in my own home," Hicks added. "That's where I got to be safe and that's where I'm going to be safe."
The family said Jamyah may have to take medication to prevent seizures.
