Florida resident Shawn Daniel Bailey was hit with animal cruelty charges this week after he cut off his 3-month-old dog's ears.
Bailey, 34, told Williston, Florida, police officers he was trying to make his dog look “tough.”
“Mr. Bailey told me he was trying to make the dog look tough and got carried away,” a Williston police officer wrote in a report.
When police arrived at Bailey’s home, they found the dog’s severed ears sitting on a counter top. The dog was transported to a veterinarian’s office, and Bailey was arrested. He was charged with one count of animal cruelty and released on $3,000 bond.
The Williston police report concluded that the process of docking, also known as cropping, a dog’s ears should only be done by a veterinarian.
My personal investigation found that you should just leave your dog’s ears alone.
