Man Allegedly Commits Suicide In House Fire Which Claims Lives Of His Two Children

A Texas man is believed to have committed suicide and murdered his two children in a house fire Nov. 1, police say.

David Small, a 45-year-old father of two, was found dead inside the property by firefighters, along with his daughter, 9-year-old Ashley Regan Small, and son, 8-year-old Grant Small, Fox 4 reported.

The alarm was raised at about 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 1.

David Small is suspected to have committed suicide and subsequently caused the deaths of his children, according to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office. Two pets were also reportedly found dead inside the residence.

The official cause of death is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to be smoke inhalation. A toxicology report is pending.

Karen Small, David’s wife, had reportedly begun divorce proceedings. It's unclear where she was at the time of the fire.

“I cannot imagine losing my two kids, I mean, it's heartbreaking," Heidi Lyons, a family friend, told Fox 4. "I can't imagine what their mother is going through. She was an amazing mother."

The children loved to play sports and were always smiling, according to family friends.

A GoFundMe page set up to help the family had raised just over half its goal of $100,000 by Nov. 3.

“We thank everybody for their prayers, their thoughts, and everything they've done for us to make this as comfortable as we can be during this extremely difficult time,” a Small family statement posted on the page read.
