A Florida prison inmate who killed his elderly cellmate said he did it because the man was a child molester.

Frederick Patterson III, 21, killed Arthur Williams, 82, on Jan. 15, and told officers "now there's one less child molester on the streets," the Panama City News Herald reported.

Officers said Patterson admitted to waiting until after 1 a.m. to attack Williams. He said he dragged Williams out of his bunk, stomped on his head and slammed him repeatedly onto the concrete floor. Officers added that Patterson continued beating Williams after he appeared dead.

"When asked about this, Patterson replied because Williams likes kids," officers wrote. "Patterson said Williams told him stories about touching kids during their time as cellmates."

"Patterson stated after the attack he placed Williams’ charge sheet and a picture of a prior victim in the back of Williams’ pants," officers added. "... Patterson was very matter of fact and smiling throughout the interview."

Williams suffered "catastrophic blunt force trauma to his face," officers wrote. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Patterson, who was sentenced to life in prison for killing another cellmate in 2015, is now facing a first-degree murder charge, the Daily Mail reported. He was also previously convicted of burglary.

Patterson will return to court in April to stand trial for Williams' death. He has since been placed in solitary confinement.

Williams, who is originally from Canada, was in custody after a 9-year-old boy reported that he had tried to lure him into his car after he got off a school bus one day. The boy said he kept seeing the car days later, and caught the driver "looking at him, and would wave at him as he slowly passed."

During his trial, Williams was deemed incompetent. He was facing charges of aggravated stalking and enticing a child into a vehicle. He was reportedly waiting to be transferred into a state mental health facility.

Reactions to Patterson's crime were mixed. While some social media users commended Patterson for getting rid of a child molester, others didn't see too much merit behind his actions.

"Excuses, excuses. A very premeditated crime," wrote one user. "I think this is a guy who just likes killing people. If not for one reason, he'll find another."

"How do I send money to Frederick Patterson III prison account?" asked on user. "A good deed and a beneficial societal service should be rewarded."

"Says him. Sounds like he just enjoys killing," added another. "Keep him in solitary. Let's see if his penchant for justice continues."
