Daniel Rozzi is accused of shooting at a car full of children during a fit of road rage in Albuquerque, N.M., last Saturday.
According to the police report, Theresa Lechuga was driving the car with the children on Interstate 25 when she pulled over to avoid a crash with Rozzi.
"I look through my mirror and I think, okay, this guy is coming," Lechuga told KOAT.
Moments later, Rozzi's car pulled up besides hers and they exchanged words.
Lechuga ran a red light to get away from Rozzi, who followed her, while the scared children told the worried mom to keep going.
"My kids are in there, my grandson," recalled Lechuga. "I don't know what's going to happen."
Lechuga said that she and the children heard some gunshots, "We freaked out, the kids were completely down."
"It's heartbreaking, because I don't think a mother should have to feel anything like that when it comes to craziness like that," added Lechuga.
Lechuga claims that Rozzi followed her through every single red light that she ran until he got hit by a truck.
"I feel sorry for the people who got hit in that truck," stated Lechuga. "I'm really, really sorry they got hit, but thank you. Because if not, I don't know how much more of this would be going on, or if I would've wrecked. I thank God everybody's ok and we're fine. I just hope that the person who did this can pay for what they did."
Police arrested Rozzi and charged him with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and three counts of child abuse, noted ABQJournal.com.
